A hub advertised with “100W pass-through” may deliver only 85W or 88W to your laptop. Some of that input powers the hub and its accessories. Choose by the laptop output and the ports you actually need, rather than the largest number on the box.

For Ethernet, fast USB storage and a compatible 4K/60Hz monitor, the Anker 555 A8383 is the stronger fit of the two purchase options below. The Belkin AVC008btSGY suits a simpler setup, but its 4K/30Hz limit matters more than its extra 3W of nominal charging capacity. If your laptop needs the full 100W from its adapter, neither meets that target through the hub.

These are specified limits, not a promise that your laptop will draw that wattage. Start with its documented USB-C charging requirements and recommended adapter. A laptop’s adapter rating is a useful sizing reference; it is not a claim that the laptop consumes that amount continuously.

Follow the power from the wall to the laptop

There are three separate checks: what the charger supplies to the hub, what the hub can pass to the laptop, and what the laptop accepts. A 100W-rated hub cannot turn a 65W adapter into a 100W source. Nor can a larger adapter remove the hub’s own output ceiling.

Belkin provides a useful concrete example for the AVC008btSGY: a 65W charger supplies up to 53W through the adapter while its other functions are used. With 100W input, subtracting the stated 12W allocation gives an 88W ceiling. That arithmetic belongs to this model; do not apply it to every USB-C hub.

Also check a multiport charger’s simultaneous allocation. A port that supplies 100W alone may provide less when you connect a phone to another socket. Our two-device charger comparison helps check supported charger combinations; it does not calculate the additional power reserved by your hub.

Anker 555: the more capable data and display option

The Anker 555, model A8383, combines Gigabit Ethernet with two USB-A data ports and one USB-C data port rated up to 10Gbps. The host connection and attached device must also support 10Gbps to use that data rate. Its SD and microSD readers use UHS-I. Choose it when those faster USB connections or the monitor capability are useful to your existing equipment.

The HDMI limit depends on the laptop: Anker specifies 4K/60Hz with DisplayPort 1.4 support and 4K/30Hz with DisplayPort 1.2. A USB-C connector alone does not establish either capability. Check the exact laptop port’s display specification before ordering.

Its 100W input rating corresponds to up to 85W for the laptop. The USB-C data socket and PD input socket serve different purposes: connect the charger to PD input. Do not choose this hub to satisfy a requirement for 100W at the laptop, or buy it for UHS-II card-reader performance.

Belkin: consider it for the ports, not a 3W advantage

The Belkin AVC008btSGY has Gigabit Ethernet, two USB-A ports, an SD reader, HDMI and USB-C PD. Its 5Gbps data and 4K/30Hz display limits make it a narrower choice than the Anker for this comparison.

It remains a candidate when that port set covers your needs and the offer you find is attractive. If both offers are similarly priced and you need a 4K/60Hz display or 10Gbps storage connection, choose the Anker instead, subject to host compatibility. The 88W versus 85W ceiling alone is not a good reason to replace a working hub.

Already own a CalDigit SOHO? Count connected devices

The SOHO illustrates why a single output number can be incomplete. CalDigit’s charging table gives the following laptop allowances with a 100W-or-higher input supply:

Use the table for the SOHO, not as a universal hub formula. It explains why planning around the advertised 90W can leave too little allowance once accessories are attached. This is an existing-owner example rather than a main purchase recommendation: the Amazon US listing checked for this guide was unavailable.

When keeping the charger separate makes more sense

If your laptop has another suitable charging port, connect its charger directly and use the hub for peripherals on a separate port, without feeding a second charger into the hub. Check the laptop’s supported arrangement first. This can preserve the existing adapter connection and avoid buying a higher-powered charger solely to cover a hub’s allocation.

For a one-cable desk, choose a hub or dock whose documented host output with your accessories meets your target. Neither of the two shopping options above provides 100W at the laptop. Do not buy one expecting that a 140W charger will change the result.
