Privacy and measurement
If you accept analytics, we collect simple first-party pageview and product-link events to understand which guides are useful. Events contain a timestamp, article and locale, and for product links the product, merchant and link position.
Our event database does not store IP addresses, email addresses, cookies, full referrer URLs or persistent visitor identifiers. Counts are not unique-person estimates. Your browser stores your consent choice locally for up to 180 days, without a visitor ID. You can reject measurement or change your choice through Cookie settings in the footer. Infrastructure providers may process requests to deliver the website.
If you email us, your message is handled by our email provider so we can respond. Please do not send sensitive documents. For questions or requests, contact the address below.
Our power checker calculates in your browser. It does not transmit the exact wattages you enter. With analytics permission, we record broad power ranges, how many of the compared products fit, and product clicks. These categories help us identify useful follow-up research; they are not connected to an email address or visitor identifier.
Research requests and newsletter email
When you suggest a question, we store the question, any optional context, your selected edition and the request date with Cloudflare. We use them to plan research and may group related questions. Please do not include sensitive personal information.
An optional email address is used to contact you about that request and its published result. This purpose is separate from newsletter consent. Leaving an email with a question does not, by itself, subscribe you to recurring mail.
Newsletter signup records include your email, edition, signup source, request and confirmation dates, the consent policy version and any unsubscribe date. We use a confirmation email before activating a subscription. Our email delivery provider processes addresses and messages to deliver mail. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing from the newsletter does not cancel a separate research-result request.
Our initial retention proposal is to review demand records and unconfirmed signups after 180 days and remove data no longer needed. Active subscription records are kept to provide the newsletter; a minimal consent and unsubscribe record may be retained to respect your choices. The forms store only a temporary request identifier in your browser’s session storage for safe retries, not your email or question.

To limit automated abuse, we derive a short-lived keyed value from a request’s IP address. This value is kept for no more than 24 hours. We do not store the full IP address in this rate-limit record. This protection is separate from optional analytics.
When you follow a product link, you leave Cadiens. The merchant receives your request and may use cookies under its own privacy policy. Affiliate links include a publication-level tag to attribute eligible purchases; the tag does not identify you to Cadiens.
