Check your laptop's USB output first
Open the specifications for the exact laptop model and find the output rating of the USB port you intend to use — not the wattage of the charger that came with the laptop. A charger that delivers plenty of power to the laptop says nothing about how much the laptop supplies to a peripheral; connector shape alone is equally insufficient. If the port's rated output is below 15 W, the ADS-1300's one-cable setup is not established for that machine.
Keep supply capability and consumption apart. Brother's support page requires a computer USB-C port supporting 15 W output or higher, while the family manual rates the ADS-1300's own DC scanning consumption at approximately 9 W from a DC 5 V, 3 A source. The 15 W figure is the supply capability your port must offer; it is not a claim that the scanner continuously draws 15 W, so do not use it to estimate laptop-battery drain.

Brother ADS-1300: for a confirmed 15 W USB-C port
The ADS-1300 suits small recurring batches — a packet of forms carried between locations — when the host computer is verified. Its feeder takes up to 20 sheets, it scans both sides in one pass, and the box includes the USB-C cable Brother wants you to use. A card slot covers ID and business cards, and long pages are supported through a separate long-paper mode rather than the ordinary 2.76–14 in range.
Plan the whole kit: the included cable, a port with confirmed 15 W output, and — where that is missing — the optional LK-1001C adapter with a real outlet at the scanning location. Changing the plug shape does not fix a power shortfall, and the manual limits the interface cable to 6 ft (2.0 m). If those pieces are in place, the ADS-1300 is the faster-rated, more versatile feeder of the two. Canon imageFORMULA R10: for the simplest computer-powered setup
The R10 is the lower-friction choice when built-in software matters more than rated speed. Canon's listing states the scanner is powered via the supplied USB cable when connected to the laptop, with no external wall supply, and its CaptureOnTouch Lite software previews and edits scans without installing another application. The 20-sheet feeder, two-sided capture, searchable-PDF output and 2.5 W consumption cover the same small-batch routine as the Brother.
Its downsides are narrower scope and homework left to the buyer: confirm the White variant and your exact Windows or macOS version, keep loose originals in mind since sheet-fed scanners assume them, and use a different method for photographs because photo paper is not recommended. - A laptop with a confirmed 15 W USB-C output and small document batches: take the ADS-1300 for its faster rating, card slot and driver range.

- You want the ADS-1300 but the computer falls short on power: buy it only together with the LK-1001C adapter and a guaranteed outlet; otherwise choose the R10.

- Write down the host. Laptop model and exact operating-system version. For a phone-only routine, neither of these computer-based options is established.
